Gimhae’s Jinyeong Hanbit Library (Director Lee Jung-yeol) announced on the 17th that it will launch a children's philosophy program called \"Children’s Philosophy King\" in May to strengthen kids’ critical thinking and expressive skills.
The program is open to elementary students in grades 2 through 5 and will run from May 14 to June 18, meeting every Thursday at 4 p.m. for six sessions. Using age-appropriate philosophy and humanities content, the course will explore social topics and give children opportunities to pose their own questions and broaden their thinking.
Registration for Children’s Philosophy King opens at 11 a.m. on the 22nd through the Gimhae City public reservation portal. For more information, visit the Gimhae City Integrated Library website or social media, or call 055-330-4834.
Library Director Lee Jung-yeol said, \"We aim to help children develop sound thinking through discussion activities that let them ask questions freely and express their ideas. I hope they will grow into responsible members of society by sharing diverse opinions with their peers.\"
◆Gimhae City Commemorates Disability Day
Gimhae City held a successful commemoration of the 46th Disability Day on the 17th at the Gimhae Student Gymnasium and around Yeonji Park.
Organized by the Gimhae Disabled Persons’ Organizations Association (Chair Yang Han-gyo), the event used the slogan \"Ordinary daily life, so everyone can enjoy it\" to emphasize that everyday rights should be guaranteed to everyone, regardless of disability. About 900 people, including people with disabilities, their families, and local residents, attended.

Pre-event performances by the developmental disability band G-CAP, Doran Protection Workshop’s Sonbit Harmony, and the Gimhae Disabled Parents Association’s Saesol Ensemble drew enthusiastic applause. The ceremony featured a reading of the Disability Human Rights Charter and awards recognizing contributions to welfare. A card-section performance, in which attendees completed a collective message while chanting a slogan, was a particularly moving moment.
Yang Han-gyo, chair of the association, said, \"I’m very pleased that the long-awaited wheelchair bus 'Gayanarae' has begun operating. Gayanarae will be more than a means of transport; it will be a wing of hope that helps us step out into the world and pursue our dreams.\" He added, \"Through the power of solidarity, I hope that 'ordinary daily life' becomes fully established among us.\"
Acting Mayor Shin Dae-ho, in his congratulatory remarks, said, \"What may seem like an ordinary outing to some still requires great courage for some of our neighbors. We will work to make Gimhae a city where disability does not create daily barriers and where all citizens can enjoy their rightful rights without discrimination.\"
At Yeonji Park, the event featured hands-on demonstrations of assistive devices, welfare-service booths, human-rights campaigns, and cultural activities, creating a participatory program designed to reshape perceptions of disability and promote communication and inclusion.
