On the 10th, Yeongdong County in North Chungcheong Province announced it will run a program through December to help foreign spouses obtain professional certifications.

The county will reimburse training costs for certification programs linked to employment or entrepreneurship, covering up to 500,000 KRW per person (about $375).

Yeongdong plans to allocate 8,000,000 KRW (about $6,000) from the county budget to support 20 participants. The program is open to foreign spouses who have a registered address or residence in Yeongdong County.

Applicants must submit their paperwork to the local town or township office within three months of obtaining the certification. The county supported nine people in 2023, 15 in 2024, and nine in 2025.

A Yeongdong County official said the program was designed to expand employment opportunities for foreign spouses and to help them establish a foundation for economic self-sufficiency.
