The former Yangsan-myeon office in the city's historic downtown will be converted into a small art museum.

The Yangsan Cultural Foundation announced on the 30th that the Old Downtown Archive Center has been selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Small Museums grant. The project was developed in collaboration with the city's Urban Regeneration Support Center.

The foundation says the artworks, to be exhibited in the historic building—designated a Gyeongnam provincial monument—are intended to integrate culture into residents' daily lives.

Officials lauded the foundation for preserving the building's original modern-era architecture, translating the city's collective memory into exhibition content, and demonstrating a clear commitment to transforming the site into a professional exhibition space.

\"We will convert underutilized public spaces in culturally underserved areas into arts venues so downtown residents can more readily access and enjoy cultural programming,\" a foundation official said.

Built in 1933 during Japan's colonial rule, the former Yangsan-myeon office served as a government building until 1982, when it was sold to a private owner. The city later repurchased and restored the structure and now uses it as a mixed-use cultural facility in the historic downtown.
