Amid a string of \"revenge-for-hire\" crimes—where people pay others to carry out personal retaliation—police are weighing countermeasures.
On the 30th, News1 reported that the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is considering measures that would include consolidating investigations when cases appear to be linked.
A police official said authorities could designate a specialized task force if necessary, but described the discussions as largely theoretical at this stage.
Officials said the move follows a recent series of revenge-for-hire incidents in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, and nearby areas.
Investigators say the group took requests for revenge via Telegram and, in Yangcheon-gu and Siheung in Gyeonggi Province, smeared filth on victims' front doors and scrawled graffiti.
To obtain victims' addresses and other personal data, the group reportedly planted a member as a customer-service worker at an outsourced contractor for the delivery platform Baemin and then exfiltrated customer information.
Investigators say roughly 1,000 customer records were accessed.
