The local assembly launched field inspections of climate-response and welfare policies to evaluate their effectiveness.
From April 22 to 23, the Health, Welfare and Environment Committee of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Council conducted site visits in and around Yeosu to review climate-response projects and the operation of welfare programs. The schedule prioritized on-the-ground verification of local initiatives and monitoring policy trends in connection with events held during the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change’s Climate Week.
The committee toured the Sora-myeon fine-dust buffer forest to assess its development and functions. The project is intended to reduce the ingress of fine particulate matter and to mitigate urban heat-island effects in residential areas; officials discussed ways to strengthen its measurable benefits.
They also visited the Ssangbong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center to evaluate the pilot program "Just Give." The program streamlines procedures to deliver groceries and everyday necessities to vulnerable groups, and staff on site raised suggestions for improving its operations.
On April 23, committee members attended the Carbon Neutral Industrial Policy Forum, a major Climate Week event, to review policy direction.
The council said it will incorporate the on-site feedback into forthcoming ordinance and budget reviews. The committee added that it will continue inspections focused on the real-world impacts of climate-response and welfare policies on daily life.
