Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on May 14 that it has become the first municipality nationwide to introduce a dedicated app that lets residents apply for roadside illegal-ad pickup rewards from their smartphones.
The new system allows citizens participating in the illegal-ad collection reward program to download the app (Yangju City Hall Collection Reward), submit photos of collected illegal advertisements and related information, and complete the entire process—application, review, calculation, and settlement—remotely.
The city said it converted its largely manual, paper-based application and management process to a digital system to more efficiently remove indiscriminately posted illegal advertisements, improving the speed and accuracy of administrative procedures.
Yangju built in GPS location verification and duplicate-data checks so the system can detect improper claims, such as photos taken in other jurisdictions or duplicate applications.
Previously, applicants had to prepare and submit separate documents for each banner, including before-and-after photos and an application form. With the new system, application files are generated automatically, so applicants no longer need to submit a separate form.
The city expects the change to cut excessive administrative workload from repetitive paperwork and reviews, deter fraudulent claims, and enhance the fairness and reliability of reward payments.
Yangju plans to manage the entire workflow—from application and review to reward calculation and settlement—through the system to provide citizens with a one-stop service and to increase operational efficiency.
A Yangju official said, \"By building this system, we have improved convenience through digital administrative services so that citizens can apply for rewards more easily. We will continue to pursue administrative services that enhance citizen convenience.\"
