Mangpo Elementary School in Suwon held a child traffic safety campaign on April 22 at the crosswalk in front of the school, partnering with Suwon City Hall, the Yeongtong District Office, the Suwon Southern Police Station, and the Suwon Southern Green Mothers Association.

120 people participated in the event, which sought to raise awareness and encourage safer behaviors at a major intersection used by roughly 1,900 Mangpo students.

Some 20 officials from Suwon City Hall, the Yeongtong District Office, the Yeongtong Police Station, the Taejang Police Box, and administrators from Jamwon and Taejang middle schools joined the effort to provide road-safety education and demonstrate safe crosswalk practices to students and local residents.

After the campaign, the participants met in the Mangpo Elementary principal’s office to discuss pressing traffic-safety issues and practical solutions. Representatives from City Hall, the police, and the Green Mothers Association engaged in a deliberative discussion to identify substantive, actionable measures.

Leaders from neighboring schools’ Green Mothers groups also took part, which naturally fostered exchanges between parent associations and helped the event achieve multiple community objectives.

Yang Su-nam, president of Mangpo Elementary’s Green Mothers Association, which organized the event, said, “This campaign made me feel the importance and weight of our role more acutely. I am deeply grateful to be able to volunteer for the children every day.”

An attendee said, “This multi-faceted consultation helped us understand the real issues and identify considerations for future school activities. It was very helpful.”

Principal Yoon Je-yeon said, “Parents volunteered to participate, and with City Hall, the police, parents, and assistant principals from nearby middle schools involved, the whole community joined forces for the children. I am grateful; today’s dialogue gives me confidence that Mangpo Elementary students can attend school happier and safer.”
