Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that it hosted a "K-FOOD Festa" with residents at Gungjib in Pyeongnae-dong, organized by the Namyangju Cultural Center.
The event aimed to reinterpret traditional food culture in a contemporary context by using Gungjib—a local cultural heritage site—as its setting, while also deepening residents' engagement with the humanities.
The program included cooking demonstrations, hands-on workshops, and lectures. Kim Ha-yeon, a kimchi master, and Ko Hwa-soon, a namul (seasoned wild greens) expert, led the demonstration- and workshop-focused sessions.
Professor Jung Hye-kyung of Hoseo University delivered a lecture titled "K-Food Starting with Kimchi and Namul."
Participants learned about the wisdom embedded in traditional foods—rooted in fermentation and seasonal ingredients—and practiced techniques while engaging with one another.
Mayor Joo Gwang-deok said, "It was meaningful to share the depth of traditional food culture with residents at Gungjib. I hope this event becomes a valuable moment where food, people, and culture come together."
Kim Kyung-don, director of the Namyangju Cultural Center, said, "We will use this event as a springboard to continue offering professional, distinctive cultural festivals that highlight local character."
Namyangju City plans to use the event to raise awareness of local cultural heritage and to strengthen residents' understanding of traditional culture and community ties.
