
On the 29th, a public holiday, wildfires broke out in Hongseong and Yesan in South Chungcheong Province.
According to forest authorities, at about 2:29 p.m. a fire started on a hillside in Moghyeon-ri, Eunha-myeon, Hongseong County. Authorities deployed five firefighting helicopters, 16 vehicles and 37 personnel, and brought the blaze under control in 59 minutes.
No injuries were reported, but the fire burned approximately 0.6 hectares (about 1.48 acres), according to fire department estimates.
Earlier, at about 1:22 p.m., a fire broke out on a hillside in Gwolgok-ri, Daesul-myeon, Yesan County. It burned roughly 0.18 hectares (about 0.44 acres), according to Yesan County, and firefighters extinguished it in 43 minutes.
Forest officials said the Hongseong fire originated at a residence, while the Yesan fire began at a factory.
Forest authorities said they plan to deploy a specialized wildfire investigation team to the scene to determine the exact causes.
