On the 12th, the Busan District Court’s Criminal Division 10 (Presiding Judge Heo Seong-min) fined A, a man in his 50s charged with aggravated assault, 4,000,000 KRW (about $3,000).

According to prosecutors, on June 11 last year at 10:18 a.m., in front of a convenience store in Jung-gu, Busan, A allegedly told a man in his 40s identified as B that he would kill him, then threw a brick and punched him in the head.

Prosecutors said A attacked after B, who was leaving his shift at the convenience store, had looked at him.

The court said it took into account that the defendant admitted the offense, acknowledged his problems and had undergone long-term inpatient treatment for alcohol dependence — factors the judges viewed as indicating a commitment not to reoffend.
