Spo1 Park in Geumjeong District, Busan, has renovated its children's hands-on safety education programs and is now welcoming visitors.

On March 10, the Busan Facilities Corporation announced it will operate the 2026 Children's Safety Experience Class at the refurbished Spo1 Park Disaster Safety Experience Center from March through the end of the year.

The free, hands-on program targets kindergartners, elementary, middle and high school students, groups for people with disabilities, and park visitors. It is designed to strengthen participants' ability to respond effectively in disaster situations.

The sessions begin with an orientation and proceed to the disaster history exhibit, earthquake simulator, fire extinguisher training, smoke chamber, first-aid training, and everyday safety exhibits. To ensure safe participation, the center will station four to five safety assistants on weekdays.

The corporation is also operating the refurbished Children's Traffic Park program. The program provides group, hands-on traffic-safety education for kindergartners and early elementary students from March through June and again from September through December. It does not operate in July and August due to extreme summer heat.

The curriculum starts with classroom instruction on traffic-safety behaviors and moves into practical exercises such as school-zone drills, practice with manually powered pedal cars, and overpass-safety training.

The Children's Traffic Park is located outdoors near the north side sports center at Spo1 Park. It features a traffic-light system, crosswalks, an overpass, and bike lanes that mirror real road conditions, making it an ideal hands-on space for teaching children about traffic safety.

Lee Seong-rim, director of the Busan Facilities Corporation, said, "We hope children naturally develop the skills to respond to disasters and traffic accidents through the diverse hands-on safety programs at Spo1 Park. We will continue expanding experiential safety education for residents."
