Yoon Hee-geun, a People Power Party preliminary candidate for governor of Chungbuk (North Chungcheong), on the 10th urged fellow party contenders for the Chungbuk nomination to debate policy and questions of political identity, including a pledge to sever ties with former President Yoon Suk Yeol.

At a press conference in the provincial government briefing room, Yoon pointed to the party’s actions the previous day: a public apology issued in the names of all its lawmakers over the Dec. 3 martial law episode, an explicit rejection of the so-called “Yoon Again” movement, and an expressed commitment to broad unity.

He said he has characterized the series of events after the martial law episode as a mistake born of attempting to resolve political disputes by abnormal means rather than through normal political processes. He added that, following the first‑instance court ruling, political actors should set aside partisan differences, stop stoking national division and allegations of insurrection, and move forward with an eye to the future.

Yoon stressed that it is incumbent upon candidates for governor of a large province to allow voters to assess their stance on the party’s identity, their own political identity, and their policy agenda — and ultimately to judge who is best qualified to lead a province of 1.65 million people. He said every candidate has the responsibility and obligation to answer these questions.

Yoon also unveiled his top pledge, the “Chungbuk‑style Youth Settlement Innovation Project.” The plan calls for expanding quality jobs for young people, addressing housing challenges, making Chungbuk more family‑friendly for raising children, creating youth settlement hubs, and establishing a youth foundation.
