Baek Seung-ah, the party’s floor spokesperson, told reporters this after a policy coordination meeting on the 9th.
The disciplinary motion, co-sponsored by 25 Democratic lawmakers including Senior Deputy Floor Leader for Operations Cheon Jun-ho, says Rep. Kim’s accusations “amount to an improper negative campaign intended to defeat candidate Jeong and mislead voters.”
The motion also accuses him of “expressing sexist attitudes and objectifying the public official by disregarding her professionalism and the value of her work,” calling his remarks “a clear violation of labor rights and comments that run counter to the constitutional commitment to eradicating gender discrimination.”
Earlier, on the 31st of last month, Rep. Kim alleged that while Jeong served as mayor of Seongdong District, he traveled on official business to the Mexican resort Cancún with a female public official, and that related documents listed the employee’s gender as male.
Jeong’s campaign pushed back, calling the charge a baseless negative attack that singled out one female official among the 11 people on the trip, and filed a police complaint accusing Rep. Kim of spreading false information in violation of the Public Official Election Act.
On Facebook, Rep. Kim responded to the disciplinary motion, saying, “Democratic Party lawmakers who remained silent about their colleagues’ sexual misconduct have suddenly overreacted and lodged an ethics complaint against me,” and added, “Even if the dog in Cancún barks, the train to Seoul will run. We will win the Seoul election.”
