Hyun Geun-taek, the Democratic Party's preliminary nominee for mayor of Yongin, secured a majority in the party primary on the 12th and was confirmed as the party's official candidate.
The Democratic Party's Gyeonggi Provincial Election Committee announced that Hyun was selected as the party's nominee for Yongin mayor. The primary outcome was determined by an even split: 50% from registered party members' votes and 50% from a public opinion poll.
Immediately after his confirmation, Hyun thanked Yongin residents for their support and vowed to reclaim the city's pride and secure victory.
He called for party unity with fellow primary contenders Jung Chun-suk and Jung Won-young, saying, \"Now is the time to end the competition and join forces to win.\" He pledged to enter the general election as one team with them.
Hyun also discussed aligning with Chu Mi-ae, the Democratic Party's candidate for governor of Gyeonggi Province. \"I will translate President Lee Jae-myung's national policy agenda into concrete action in Yongin,\" he said, \"and together with candidate Chu, we'll shape the electoral dynamics across Gyeonggi and Yongin.\"
He pointed to his track record of getting things done as a key strength. \"I'll use decisive administrative action to resolve Yongin's challenges and deliver tangible changes residents can feel,\" he said. \"This campaign will be about restoring Yongin's pride, and I will answer with results in the general election.\"
