On the 11th, Lee Yun-gu (60), an executive committee member of the Gyeongnam branch of the National Sovereignty Nationwide Council, formally announced his candidacy after the Democratic Party nominated him unopposed for the newly created provincial assembly seat in Yangsan.

Lee is running in Yangsan City’s 4th electoral district (Dong-myeon, excluding Seoksan-ri).

He held a press briefing at the City Hall press center and pledged to make Dong-myeon the transportation hub of the planned Busan‑Ulsan‑Gyeongnam megacity. His platform includes introducing a circulator bus system, creating interconnected nature walking trails as “healing routes,” establishing specialized high schools for athletics, the arts and technology, and holding regular village-level resident meetings.

The event was attended by Kim Du-kwan, chair of the Democratic Party’s Yangsan regional committee; provincial assembly candidate Pyo Byung-ho; and city council candidates Park Seon-ju and Lee Ki-jun.

Lee said, “I pledge to dedicate myself to improving the daily lives and quality of life of residents in Gaegok, Beopgi, Yeorak, Sasong, Naesong, Geumsan and Gasan-ri in Dong-myeon.” He added, “Alongside the Busan‑Ulsan‑Gyeongnam megacity initiative, I will work to advance a regional transportation network, promote specialized education, secure residents’ green space rights, and complete a system of citizen-participation administration so that Dong-myeon can emerge as the megacity’s central city.”

Lee graduated from Busanjin High School and holds a degree in public administration from Dong-A University. He has served as secretary-general of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation’s Yangsan regional committee, among other positions.
