[iNews24 reporter Bae Jeong-hwa] The Jeju chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea said on April 22 that it would release videos featuring proportional-representation candidates ahead of the 9th nationwide local elections.
The chapter announced it will publish debate and policy-statement videos to evaluate the policy expertise and practical skills of candidates participating in the proportional-representation ranking vote.
The videos, to be released April 22–24, include the third set of Jeju Provincial Council candidate debates focused on proportional representation. Each candidate appears on camera to outline key pledges and legislative plans. The party said the footage will help members and Jeju residents assess candidates’ policy understanding and their ability to respond to current issues.
Earlier, the chapter released debate and policy-statement videos for constituency candidates on April 8–10 and April 16–18.
The proportional-representation ranking debates divided candidates into four groups and featured opening remarks, policy presentations, and moderated discussions.
The chapter will post videos of groups 1 and 2 on April 22, and groups 3 and 4 on April 23. It plans to upload the candidates’ policy-statement videos on April 24.
The Jeju chapter uploaded the videos to its YouTube channel 'Democratic Party of Korea — Jeju Provincial Party TV (https://www.youtube.com/@jejuminjoo)' and to Chairman Kim Han-gyu’s channel 'HanQ Kim Han-gyu (https://www.youtube.com/@hanqkim74)'.
Chairman Kim Han-gyu said the National Assembly recently increased the number of Jeju Provincial Council seats and raised the share of proportional representatives from 20% to 25%. He added that he expects the videos to provide a meaningful opportunity to evaluate the candidates.
