People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk erupted in anger yesterday (the 26th) during a closed Supreme Council meeting over internal divisions and falling approval ratings, sources confirmed.
Yonhap TV’s reporting indicates that at the closed session Jang complained that, despite efforts to shift the party’s direction, approval ratings continued to decline and that the adoption of a party resolution had in fact driven away core supporters.
A senior party official said, "We followed Jang's instructions in the meeting, yet approval ratings still fell like this. The Democratic Party stays united—why can't we?"
The council also saw a dispute over whether to reappoint media spokesperson Park Min-young.
Jang reportedly raised his voice at critics of Park’s reappointment, asking, "Do you want me to fire all the party staff who support me?"
Another senior official said, "Even when the Democratic Party fights, they do not attack their leader personally. Why are we going this far?" The official added that Jang appears to be under considerable stress.
Earlier, after the council meeting, spokesperson Ham In-kyung told reporters that several party members had expressed concerns about publicly criticizing the leadership and candidates in connection with Park’s reappointment.
