On the 12th, the Democratic Party of Korea confirmed Jeong Myeong-geun as its nominee for mayor of Hwaseong.
In the third-round primary results announced that day, the Gyeonggi provincial branch of the party said Jeong finished first in the special Hwaseong mayoral primary held from the 11th to the 12th, winning a majority of votes and securing the nomination without a runoff.
After his confirmation, Jeong thanked Hwaseong’s 1.07 million residents and Democratic Party members and expressed gratitude to the volunteers who supported his campaign during the primary.
He acknowledged his primary rivals, Kim Kyung-hee and Jin Seok-beom, stressed the importance of presenting a united \"one team\" going forward, and said he will shape his general-election campaign around the policies and pledges proposed during the primary.
During the primary, Jeong outlined priorities such as creating a basic social safety net, developing an AI-driven \"future city,\" and establishing a \"30-minute mobility\" era. He also proposed life-course tailored care services, promoting Hwaseong as an eco-tourism cultural city, and building a high-tech industrial hub. After his nomination, he said he would prioritize policies focused on livelihoods and economic growth.
Jeong said, \"I thank Hwaseong’s 1.07 million residents and my Democratic Party colleagues for their strong support.\" He offered sincere respect and gratitude to Kim Kyung-hee and Jin Seok-beom for competing fairly in the primary. \"I will join with the two candidates to form a unified Democratic Party team and, together with citizens, work to win the mayoralty in the general election,\" he added. \"We will move quickly on policies to revive livelihoods and the economy, working hand in hand with Hwaseong’s 1.07 million residents.\"
