Choi Eun-seok, a lawmaker competing in the People Power Party primary for Daegu mayor, criticized Democratic Party candidate Kim Boo-kyum for relying on image-driven politics while offering no concrete plan to revive Daegu's economy.

On the 2nd, Choi opened by questioning whether Kim's claim that his mobile number has been widely shared among Daegu residents — and that he has received many calls — is something to boast about. "Anyone involved in Daegu politics should, at minimum, print and distribute a business card with their mobile number," Choi said, adding that repeatedly highlighting this point only underscores how distant Kim has been from Daegu citizens.

Choi argued that Kim's campaign lacks substance. "The politics are visible, but an economic plan is not. The schedule is continuous, but the message is unclear," he said, noting that Kim appears to emphasize expectations of election support from the Lee Jae-myung administration while showing little evident concern for the everyday lives of Daegu residents.

Choi insisted that any candidate for Daegu mayor must first present specific measures to revive the city's economy. "Daegu residents are waiting for real answers, not image," he said.

He also questioned the sincerity of Kim's announcement that he would re-examine his earlier pledge to build the Park Chung-hee Convention Center. Choi cited a past remark by Lee Jae-myung — "I called her 'Respected President Park Geun-hye,' and people actually thought I respected her" — and said he hopes Kim will not adopt a similar approach. From reconsidering a visit to former President Park to proposing the Park Chung-hee Convention Center, Choi warned, these recent moves risk being perceived as typical "showy" political gestures.
