The People Power Party’s Dalseo-gu Byeong chapter held a rally to defend Daegu ahead of the 2026 local elections, reinforcing members’ determination to win.Rep. Kwon Young-jin (chairman of the People Power Party’s Dalseo-gu Byeong chapter) hosted the “2026 Member Training and 9th Local Elections Victory Rally” on the fourth floor of Vienna Wedding on the afternoon of the 30th.
About 1,000 party members attended. Mayoral candidate Choo Kyung-ho, Dalseo-gu chief candidate Kim Yong-pan, and candidates for regional and local council seats all turned out to pledge their support and commitment to victory.
The event was organized to consolidate conservative support and strengthen the party’s organizational capacity ahead of the nationwide local elections on June 3.
Attendees emphasized a shared belief: defending Daegu is integral to defending the Republic of Korea, and they gathered to reaffirm that commitment.
Rep. Kwon stressed the stakes of the contest, saying, “With the major opposition’s domination putting national security and the economy at risk, protecting Daegu is the way to save the country.” He urged members to move past primary disappointments, unite under a “party-before-self” spirit, and secure decisive wins for every candidate.
He also praised Choo Kyung-ho, saying, “We need an ‘economic mayor’ who can revive the economy beyond routine administration and partisan politics.” Citing Choo’s experience as deputy prime minister for economic affairs and three-term legislator, Kwon called him the right person to restore Daegu’s economy.
Choo said, “In a political climate that is shaking the legislative, executive and judicial branches, Daegu remains the last pillar maintaining South Korea’s balance,” and pledged, “As an economic expert, I will revive Daegu’s stalled economy.” He added, “Let’s turn the unity forged after the primary into a complete victory in Dalseo-gu.”Choo will open his campaign office at 3 p.m. on the 3rd on the first floor of the Samsung Kwon Building on Dalgubeol-daero in Suseong-gu, formally launching his campaign operations.
Dalseo-gu chief candidate Kim Yong-pan outlined a vision for innovation in Dalseo-gu and appealed for party unity. During a follow-up performance, participants read a resolution and chanted, “Daegu’s choice, Choo Kyung-ho” and “Dalseo’s choice, Kim Yong-pan,” pledging electoral victory.
After the event, Rep. Kwon thanked party members on Facebook and reiterated his determination to win.“I deeply appreciate the roughly 600 party members who joined despite the tight schedule,” Kwon said, calling this election “not simply a vote for local officials but a pivotal contest to put South Korea back on the right course.”
He criticized the current government’s concentration of power and what he described as erosion of the judicial system, saying citizens are experiencing serious economic and livelihood hardships on the ground.
Kwon noted that Daegu is suffering from economic stagnation and youth outmigration and stressed the need for change. “With mayoral candidate Choo Kyung-ho, Dalseo-gu chief candidate Kim Yong-pan, and our city and district council candidates—who understand the economy—we will prevail,” he said.
He closed by urging, “Let us unite with the spirit of putting the party before individual interests and secure victories for Daegu and Dalseo-gu.”
