On May 6, People Power Party candidate Seo Cheol-mo opened his campaign office and launched a concerted effort to consolidate support among voters and local political leaders in Daejeon’s Seo District.
The event drew prominent party figures, including mayoral candidate Lee Jang-woo and Daejeon party chair Lee Eun-gwon, as well as district mayoral candidates Park Hee-jo, Kim Seon-gwang and Choi Choong-gyu and several city and district council hopefuls. Attendees vowed to mobilize for victory.
Mayoral hopeful Lee Jang-woo praised Seo, noting that Seo had proposed attracting the Defense Acquisition Program Administration and creating the Norubeol National Garden four years ago. "Working together with Seo, we will generate the synergy needed to make Daejeon the nation's center and raise it to a first-tier, world-class city," Lee said.
Jeong Sang-chul, former president of Chungnam National University and the campaign’s general chair, warned that South Korea faces a precarious moment and requires urgent solutions. "To achieve that, we need capable leadership like Seo's," he emphasized.
The opening included a "communication tree" handover ceremony, in which young people representing future generations presented the tree as a pledge to help shape Seo District's future.
Seo said, "I have delivered change in Seo District through performance, not words, and through results, not promises. What the district needs now is not new experiments but leadership that completes the work. With proven administrative ability and steady execution, I will see the changes we began through to the end."
He added that cash handouts and showy, short-term policies cannot secure the district's future. "What will change residents' lives is competence and execution. We will deliver tangible improvements residents can feel and complete Seo District's future," he said.
