The People Power Party’s Daegu branch nomination committee announced the results of key local-head primaries, formally moving the regional race into the general-election phase. The contests matched incumbents’ administrative records against newcomers’ local knowledge, and the party ultimately nominated Gunwi County incumbent Kim Jin-yeol, along with Kwon O-sang, Lee Geun-soo and Woo Seong-jin for district leadership positions.

The committee said it completed the selection process for four district and county heads in Daegu as of 4:05 p.m. on the 19th. According to results announced by Lee In-seon, Kim Jin-yeol cleared the party primary for Gunwi County mayor; Kwon O-sang won the nomination for Seo District mayor; Lee Geun-soo secured the nomination for Buk District; and Woo Seong-jin prevailed in Dong District.

The nominations were based squarely on candidates’ practical abilities and measures of public sentiment. The committee combined registered party-member votes with public-opinion surveys of ordinary citizens to quantify outcomes, aiming to balance party preferences with wider voter opinion.

Lee In-seon, the committee chair, said the nominees emerged from a competitive process and bring both deep local knowledge and administrative expertise, making them credible contenders in the general election.

The most closely watched contest was the Gunwi County primary. Incumbent Kim Jin-yeol defeated former mayor Kim Young-man in a direct incumbent-versus-former-officeholder matchup. Analysts say Kim’s administrative track record and his emphasis on policy continuity during his term were decisive in winning broad local support.

In Dong, Buk and Seo districts, the party nominated candidates with administrative profiles tailored to each area’s needs, clarifying the slate across the region. The Daegu branch is organizing campaign teams around both unopposed nominees and those who prevailed in contested primaries.

The People Power Party’s Daegu branch plans to conclude remaining nomination procedures quickly and to develop district-specific platforms as it ramps up a full-scale general-election strategy.
