Ansan city announced on May 7 that the Ansan Municipal Gugak Orchestra will present its regular series, the 'Mokyo Bono Concert,' on the third Thursday of each month from May 21 through Dec. 17.
The Mokyo Bono Concert is a small-scale series intended to give residents an easy, relaxed introduction to gugak (traditional Korean music). Performances begin at 7 p.m. in the Bono Maru small theater.
This year’s program centers on the 'Gugak Gonggam PLUS' series. The orchestra will highlight traditional instruments — including the haegeum, ajaeng, daegeum and gayageum — in solo and ensemble formats, and will add seasonal special programs to enrich the presentation.
Resident conductor Lim Gyo-min will provide commentary during the concerts, aiming to make the music approachable for listeners who are less familiar with gugak. With friendly explanations, the performances are meant to offer residents a natural way to encounter traditional music in everyday life.
Each program runs about 60 minutes. Tickets are 5,000 KRW (approximately $3.75) for all seats and may be purchased through the Ansan Arts Center and Interpark Ticket websites.
Lee Sun-hee, director of Ansan’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, said the Mokyo Bono Concert gives residents a comfortable, after-work opportunity to enjoy gugak nearby, and that the city will continue expanding chances for people to experience arts and culture in their daily lives.
