[TV Daily reporter Kim Jin-seok] Diners at Chef Ahn Seong-jae’s fine-dining restaurant Mosu Seoul are alleging they were served the wrong pricey wine.

On the 23rd, a review by a diner known as A went viral on online forums. A posted on the 21st, “I’m sharing my review of the wine issue that happened at Mosu.”

A said they had secured a reservation months in advance and went with close friends. While A and their guests were enjoying the evening’s wine pairings, a problem arose with the bottle served alongside the wood-fired hanwoo (Korean beef): a wine that should have been a 2000 vintage was poured as a 2005 vintage by mistake, A wrote.

According to A, the restaurant acknowledged the mix-up and attempted to smooth things over by offering, “We’ll let you taste the 2000 vintage as well.” The wines are reported to differ in value by roughly 100,000 KRW (about $75).

Mosu’s dinner is currently priced at about 420,000 KRW (around $315), and with wine pairings for two the bill can easily top 1,000,000 KRW (about $750), which has prompted criticism.

Online commenters expressed disappointment with Mosu’s handling of the situation. Some called it a poor decision, a critical error, or warned, “If you don’t know wine, don’t go,” questioning the restaurant’s carefully cultivated image.

The post spread quickly across the web and the controversy has continued. Mosu Seoul has not yet issued a public statement about the service-quality allegations, though it is reportedly planning to address the matter on its official social media channels.

The incident has moved beyond a simple mistake and raised doubts about Chef Ahn’s long-stated pursuit of perfection. Since his three Michelin stars are tied to meticulous attention to detail, many are watching closely to see how he responds.

Meanwhile, Chef Ahn gained wider public recognition as a judge on Netflix’s reality series Black and White Chefs. Mosu Seoul is the Michelin-listed fine-dining restaurant he operates.
