Promoting Local Cultural Heritage and Spurring the Spread of Traditional Culture

23일 Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province has launched a concerted effort to promote traditional culture by tapping into its local cultural heritage.

Namyangju announced on the 23rd that it held a citizen-focused \"K-FOOD Festa\" at the gungjip in Pyeongnae-dong, organized by the Namyangju Cultural Center. The event aimed to use the gungjip's spatial significance to reintroduce the value of traditional food culture in a contemporary way and to deepen residents' appreciation for the humanities.

The program combined cooking demonstrations, hands-on workshops, and lectures. Master kimchi artisan Lee Ha-yeon and wild-greens expert Go Hwa-sun led the demonstrations and interactive sessions. Professor Jung Hye-gyeong of Hoseo University delivered a lecture titled \"K-Food That Begins with Kimchi and Wild Greens.\" Participants learned the life wisdom embedded in traditional dishes focused on fermentation and seasonal ingredients, getting hands-on experience and connecting with one another.

The city plans to use this event as a springboard to raise awareness of local cultural heritage and to strengthen citizens' understanding of traditional culture and community spirit.

Mayor Ju Gwang-deok said, \"It was meaningful to share the depth of traditional food culture with residents at the gungjip. I hope this event becomes a treasured moment where food, people, and culture come together.\"

Kim Kyung-don, director of the Namyangju Cultural Center, added, \"Building on this event, we will continue to present professional and distinctive cultural festivals that highlight our region's character.\"
