100 Italian chefs turned heads in London by building the world's longest tiramisu. According to The Sun and other outlets on April 27 (local time), Italian entrepreneur Mirko Ricci led the team that set a new Guinness World Record last weekend at Chelsea Town Hall. The dessert stretched 440.6 meters (about 1,445 ft), smashing the previous record of 273.5 meters (about 897 ft) — roughly the length of four soccer fields. Chef Carmelo Carnevale said the team assembled pieces at least 8 cm tall and 15 cm wide (about 3.15 in by 5.91 in) to construct the massive tiramisu. Guinness World Records adjudicators watched the whole process on site and verified the measurement. The chefs used 50,000 ladyfinger biscuits, more than 3,000 eggs and roughly 2.2 metric tons (about 4,850 lb) of mascarpone cheese. Ricci first set the record in Italy in 2017, lost it to another team in 2019, and reclaimed the title in 2026 with this new effort. He called tiramisu one of Italy's most remarkable dessert exports and said the giant tiramisu was made to honor the British monarch and the royal family. Tiramisu was created in the 1960s; its name comes from the Italian phrase tirami su, which roughly means "pick me up." #tiramisu #Guinness #worldrecord #Italy #London Yonhap TV story tips and inquiries: KakaoTalk/Line jebo23, Na Kyung Lee (nakyi@yna.co.kr)
