Hyundai Green Food announced that its GREATING Nutrition Assessment has become the first nutrition-assessment service in Korea’s food industry to receive a patent. The company plans to use the patent as a springboard to expand its healthcare business beyond care-food products into broader health-management services.
Hyundai Green Food, a food company affiliated with Hyundai Department Store Group, said on the 17th that the GREATING Nutrition Assessment—launched in 2022—was granted a patent by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (formerly the Patent Office).
The GREATING Nutrition Assessment asks users a short set of questions on the official GREATING Mall site or via the specialized nutrition app, GREATING Care. Within seconds, it scores a user’s nutritional status and recommends suitable ingredients, healthier eating habits, and an optimal meal plan from GREATING, the company’s care-food brand. The service is available in person at GREATING flagship stores in Hyundai Department Store’s Pangyo and Jungdong locations, and corporate catering clients can arrange assessments for use in workplace cafeterias.
Company officials say this is the first time a nutrition-assessment service in Korea’s food sector has been granted a patent. They attribute the recognition to the tool’s technical rigor and originality: a simple survey leads to a data-driven nutrition analysis and suggestions for tailor-made care-food products that Hyundai Green Food itself produces.
Users answer about 30 questions covering basic body data—age, height, weight—along with health details like preexisting conditions, allergies, and activity level, and how often they eat certain food types. A proprietary algorithm analyzes the responses and generates a personalized, comprehensive nutrition report in seconds. For example, a man in his 40s who notes high cholesterol and frequent consumption of grilled meats, jeon (Korean pancakes), and fried foods would receive a GREATING meal plan designed to be lower in saturated fat and higher in dietary fiber.
The service also suggests ingredients that can support better circulation—like tuna, pistachios, and kabocha squash—and offers practical tips such as choosing steaming or boiling over frying and staying well hydrated to help reduce blood lipids.
Hyundai Green Food credits its patent win to the large volume of nutrition research data accumulated through its corporate catering and care-food operations, along with having the country’s largest care-food product lineup.
The company operates in-house care-food production facilities and produces roughly 680 care-food varieties—the biggest selection in Korea. It has conducted joint clinical research with Asan Medical Center, the Hanaro Medical Foundation, and Ewha Womans University, published multiple SCI-level papers, and participated in related government projects. Hyundai Green Food says these production and research strengths enabled it to combine nutrition assessment and customized care-food solutions into a distinctive, integrated service.
Using the patent as momentum, Hyundai Green Food plans to expand its healthcare offerings into full health-management services. It is upgrading the GREATING Nutrition Assessment—adding the ability to integrate external health-check data, among other enhancements—and is developing a premium B2B healthcare package that combines multiple services.
The company plans to pilot a new healthcare model later this year aimed at employers that prioritize employee wellness. The program will feature on-site nutritionists for professional consultations, daily meal-management support, and fitness classes tailored to workplace needs.
“We will continue to introduce new technologies and services that help consumers make healthier food choices based on our nutrition research and food-manufacturing capabilities, and we will further solidify our position as Korea’s leading care-food company,” a Hyundai Green Food official said.
