Guri City in Gyeonggi Province announced on March 10 that it will accept applications through March 31 for restaurants that want to participate in the 2026 Waguri Favorite Restaurants and Long‑Established Eateries program. The goal is simple: strengthen the local dining scene and give Guri’s food culture a fresh spotlight.

Waguri Favorite Restaurants is a city certification that recognizes eateries meeting set standards for taste, hygiene and service. The program is designed to help residents and visitors find trusted local spots.

The city is also on the lookout for beloved long‑running “nopo” restaurants — those time‑tested places that have served the community for years — and plans to promote them as part of Guri’s culinary heritage.

Eligible applicants are general restaurants currently operating in Guri. To apply, submit the Excellent Restaurant (Waguri Favorite or Nopo Restaurant) designation form along with supporting documents. Applications can be delivered in person to Guri City’s Department of Sanitation and Safety, mailed, or emailed to jungeun0204@korea.kr.

The selection process has three stages: a document review, on‑site inspections and a public preference survey. In April, the first round will screen applicants’ records, including administrative action history and length of operation. Between April and June, an expert panel will visit nominated restaurants to conduct tasting evaluations focused on flavor, value and service.

Food hygiene inspectors will inspect sanitation and environmental conditions on site, and the results of an online public preference survey will be included in the overall evaluation.

Scores from these evaluations will be combined, and restaurants that score 85 points or higher will be forwarded to a selection committee for final designation as Waguri Favorite Restaurants or Long‑Established Eateries.

Selected restaurants will receive Waguri certification and promotional support, helping to introduce them widely to residents and tourists as representative Guri eateries.

Guri City expects this initiative to uncover standout local restaurants, strengthen Guri’s unique food brand and give a boost to the local business district.

Mayor Baek Kyung‑hyun said, "Waguri Favorite Restaurants isn't just about pointing out tasty places. It's a program to discover establishments with excellent flavor, hygiene and service and to raise the overall standard of Guri’s food culture. We hope many restaurants take part and grow together as Guri’s signature spots."
