In front of 35,729 fans on Children's Day, K League 1 rivals FC Seoul and FC Anyang each had a player sent off and were left to rue a 0-0 draw.
Yonhap reported that on May 5, 2026, FC Seoul and FC Anyang played to a 0-0 draw at Seoul World Cup Stadium in Round 12 of the 2026 Hana Bank K League 1 season.
Despite being scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff—a slot that often hurts holiday attendance—the match drew 35,729 spectators.
The meeting left their head-to-head record tightly contested: five matches with one win, three draws and one loss.
Seoul took a hit in the 36th minute of the first half when key center-back Yazan stepped on Kim Un's ankle, received a straight red card and was sent off.
Seoul replaced forward Cho Young-wook with defender Park Seong-hoon to cover the loss. The home side maintained a slight edge afterward but couldn’t find the breakthrough.
After the match, Seoul manager Kim Ki-dong said at a press conference, \"Many children and fans came, so it's disappointing the red card marred the game.\"
Yazan reportedly went to apologize to Kim after the match. Kim defended him, saying, \"I don't think he needed to apologize. Yazan gave his best effort; he slipped and couldn't stop, which led to stepping on the opponent's ankle.\"
Kim added, \"I told Yazan to be grateful his teammates held on and earned the point. I also told him that when he returns he has to contribute at least twice as much.\"
Seoul played a man down for 45 minutes, until Anyang forward Kim Kang was sent off in the 36th minute of the second half.
The players rallied to avoid what would have been the club's first back-to-back defeats of the season.
Kim said, \"A top team can't afford consecutive losses, so holding on to that point while a man short was important. Last year we would have conceded two or three and lost; one goal would have collapsed us. I think we've clearly gained resilience. The point we earned today could play a significant role this season.\"
Anyang manager Yoo Byung-hoon, frustrated that his side failed to capitalize on 45 minutes of numerical advantage and only came away with one point, also lamented Kim Kang's dismissal.
Kim Kang was shown a red card after a confrontation with opposing players following a foul; he taunted the crowd by pointing both thumbs downward.
Yoo said, \"There needs to be a learning period regarding conduct and how to treat fans. Kim Kang, trying to perform in a big game, overreacted.\"
He added, \"If people give him time, Kim Kang will become a good player. We'll coach him properly and make sure he becomes a player our team needs.\"
Yoo emphasized, \"We prepared our defense well against Seoul, but we didn't prepare the attacking plan to pierce them. We haven't scored in two straight games; we'll analyze that thoroughly.\"
