Students from the Aviation Operations program in the Department of Aviation, Hotel and Tourism at Korea National University of Changwon’s Namhae Campus won an Encouragement Award at the 8th Gyeongnam General Public CPR Competition held on April 9 at the Jinyeong Hanbit Library performance hall in Gimhae.

A team of eight students led by Kim Do-a delivered a performance-style demonstration simulating a cardiac arrest at an airport. Through this staged scenario they effectively showcased emergency response skills and strong teamwork. Judges praised their accurate CPR under time constraints, clear communication of the situation, and lifelike staging, which earned them the Encouragement Award.

The event, hosted by Gyeongnam Province and organized by the Fire Department’s Prevention and Safety Division, was designed to assess participants’ ability to respond to cardiac arrest and perform CPR. A total of 118 participants, representing teams selected from 18 fire stations across the province, competed vigorously.

Kim Ju-hee, department chair and coach of the team, said, “This competition gave students meaningful, hands-on experience to develop emergency response skills beyond the classroom. We will continue to expand practical training to cultivate professionals who can contribute to community safety.”

Namhae Campus also runs a range of practical training programs tied to the Regional Innovation-centered University Support System (RISE) project, focusing on developing safety and service professionals connected to the local community. Aviation operations students from Namhae Campus similarly delivered a strong performance and won an Encouragement Award at last year’s 7th competition.
