Emphasized uninterrupted progress on key projects, including attracting a major tertiary hospital and Kakao
Ju Gwang-deok, the People Power Party's provisional candidate for mayor of Namyangju, held an opening ceremony for his campaign office at 2 p.m. on the 9th. Running under the slogan “From start to finish, Ju Gwang-deok,” he declared a firm commitment to see Namyangju’s future through to completion.
The event was well attended by roughly 2,000 party members and residents, including Kim Seon-kyo, chair of the Gyeonggi Provincial Party Committee; Cho Gwang-han, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party; former Namyangju mayors Lee Seok-woo and Kim Young-hee; former city council chairs Lee Gye-ju and Park Yoo-hee; and former city councilor Park Seong-chan.
In his campaign announcement, Ju said the past four years built the foundation for change in Namyangju and that the next four will turn those plans into reality. He pledged to press ahead without interruption on major initiatives, including attracting the first 1,000‑bed tertiary hospital in northern Gyeonggi, securing investments from top firms such as Kakao for the Wangsuk urban high‑tech complex—about 1.7 times the size of Pangyo—and completing an era of 10 rail lines, including GTX‑B.
“The person who drew the blueprints is best suited to complete them,” Ju said, adding that with the momentum he brings and more than 30 years of experience in law, legislation, and administration, he will strip away Namyangju’s image as a bedroom community and build a forward‑looking, self‑sustaining city.
He opened his policy agenda by unveiling his top pledge: an ambitious “Hybrid City Development” centered on the Namyangju Sports Center area.
Ju described the area around the Namyangju Sports and Culture Center as a strategic hub linking the Dasan, Wangsuk, and Yangjeong new towns. He said the plan is to create South Korea’s first integrated smart city combining culture, sports, education, healthcare, and housing so residents won’t need to travel to Seoul for weekend activities.
The Hybrid City plan would transform the Sports and Culture Center district into a self‑sufficient smart hub connecting the Dasan, Wangsuk, and Yangjeong new towns. Key facilities would include a dedicated esports arena, a premium shopping mall, high‑end residential developments, and a large healthcare center. Ju said the project would establish a unified southern hub, generate jobs, attract millions of visitors, and complete a fully autonomous city.
Finally, Ju pledged to run a fair campaign focused on policy and vision rather than negative tactics, saying he will deliver results that go “beyond imagination” with sincere attention solely to citizens.
Before the opening ceremony, a congratulatory message from Jo Eung-chun, a gubernatorial preliminary candidate of the Reform New Party, circulated on social media and drew attention. Jo noted that, despite their different party affiliations, he and Ju have cooperated on regional development and said, “When it comes to Namyangju, we are always one team.”
