In the Democratic Party primary to select its Daejeon Jung-gu mayoral candidate for the June 3 local elections, incumbent Mayor Kim Je-seon and Councilor Yuk Sang-rae advanced to the final runoff.
On the 10th, the Democratic Party’s Daejeon branch candidate selection committee announced that Kim and Yuk received the highest vote totals and will move on to the final round.
The primary featured four contenders — Kang Cheol-seung, Kim Je-seon, Yuk Sang-rae and Jeon Byung-yong — with the top two vote-getters advancing to the runoff.
Voting took place over two days, the 9th and 10th, with the final result calculated as 50% from party-member votes and 50% from a public opinion poll conducted using anonymized secure numbers.
The runoff is scheduled for the 16th and 17th.
