[Anchor] Demand for pet-friendly travel is rising, but the hassles of getting from A to B still stop many people from taking trips with their animals. A new ferry that lets owners and their pets stay together in dedicated spaces has launched on the Jeju–Mokpo route, and it’s turning heads. Reporter Kim Na-young has the story. [Reporter] Early one evening, a cruise ship eased into Jeju Port. The vessel, operating between Mokpo and Jeju, was introduced to meet growing demand for pet travel and made its maiden voyage. Passengers waved from the deck, and people began stepping off as the gangway opened. The ship includes cabins where owners can stay alongside their pets. 「Woo Seung-ryul · Coco · Woo Gi-eun / Geochang, South Gyeongsang Province」 As a dog owner, I want to create more memories with them, so I hope opportunities like this become more common. I was so happy to visit Jeju today with Tori and Coco. The ship even offers “MBTI-style” rooms you can pick based on your pet’s personality. 「Min Hwan-ki · Min Kyung-chul · Dalkomi · Lee Young-ran / Hoengseong County, Gangwon Province」 Our dog Dalkomi is timid, but she seemed comfortable. It was great that she didn’t have to stay in a cage—she could roam freely in a calm, quiet space. The Queen Mary can carry over 700 passengers and about 200 vehicles, and it’s outfitted with a variety of pet-focused amenities, including pet VIP rooms, suites, and pet first-class seating. With departures from Mokpo at 2:00 p.m. and from Jeju at 7:00 a.m., the schedule steers away from the usual pre-dawn rush. A new pet-friendly ferry route to Jeju is now open, offering owners a smoother way to travel together with their animals. This is Kim Na-young for Yonhap News TV.
