The Public — Reporter Oh Hong-ji: On March 12, Cheongcheon-myeon in Goesan County held a regular meeting of its village chiefs' association in the second-floor conference room of the Cheongcheon-myeon office. Officials briefed attendees on resident welfare measures, agricultural and forestry policies, and upcoming local events.

Representatives from the general affairs, resident welfare, industry, and civil affairs teams summarized key administrative matters, detailed various support programs, and shared the schedule of upcoming events.

First, the general affairs team announced that applications for the “Love Green PC Distribution Project” are open through March 20. Eligible recipients include basic living beneficiaries, people with disabilities, and low-income households; social welfare organizations and facilities may also apply. Distribution will take place from June through October.

The team also outlined a scholarship program for children of village chiefs who have served at least one year. For eligible high school students, the program covers entrance fees, tuition, and school operating costs. Eligible college students may receive up to 1,000,000 KRW per year (about $750). Applications close on March 30.

On March 23, the Goesan Cultural and Arts Center will host a special lecture by film director Jang Hang-joon titled “Small Experiences That Make You a Creator.”

The resident welfare team described a one-time support payment for elementary school entrants and transfer students. New and transferred elementary students within Goesan County will receive 300,000 KRW (about $225). The application period ends March 31.

Officials also extended the application window for energy-efficiency improvements targeted at low-income households. The program covers air-conditioner replacement and new installations for cooling, and insulation work, window replacements, and boiler upgrades for heating.

They promoted the carbon-neutral points vehicle program, which provides incentives based on reduced driving distances. Residents can apply online from March 16 through March 26.

On March 20, Cheongcheon-myeon's Mushroom Land Plaza and the yard of the Cheongcheon-myeon senior association branch will host a yut-nori event for seniors and an elevator completion ceremony. Officials expect roughly 700 attendees.

The industry team urged residents to cooperate with spring wildfire prevention efforts. Cheongcheon-myeon has operated a wildfire control room since January 20 and will keep it open through May 15. Officials asked residents to refrain from illegal burning near forested areas and to report any fires immediately.

Officials announced an increase in the discount rate for Goesan Love gift certificates from 10% to 12%, to run through the end of the year. The personal monthly purchase limit is 1,000,000 KRW (about $750), and the maximum holding balance is 2,000,000 KRW (about $1,500).

The meeting also reviewed agricultural support programs, including incentives for non-rice crop cultivation, direct payments for strategic crops, and application schedules for forestry and public-interest direct payments.

The civil affairs team reported that Cheongcheon-myeon's registered population was 5,335 as of last month, an increase of 266 from the previous year.

They also outlined civil defense training schedules and formats, urging eligible residents to take part.

Lee Hyun-ju, head of Cheongcheon-myeon, said, “We use village chiefs' meetings to actively share the administrative information and support programs residents need. We will strengthen outreach so local people can fully benefit from these support policies.”
