Gunpo Senior Club took first place at the 2026 Gyeonggi Province Residents' CPR Competition, highlighting new possibilities for senior employment programs.

The event, organized by the Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Headquarters, was held at the Gyeonggi Human Resources Development Institute on May 6. Its purpose was to improve CPR performance and strengthen emergency-response capabilities.

About 60 teams competed. Members of Gunpo Senior Club’s Automated External Defibrillator (AED) management team represented the club and delivered an impressive performance.

The Senior Club has steadily enhanced its emergency-response skills through regular training and drills. Judges praised the team’s accurate judgment and rapid response, awarding them the top honor.

Kim Jong-chul, the director, said, “This award goes beyond a competition result. It demonstrates that senior employment programs are making a concrete contribution to strengthening the community safety net. It also serves as a positive model for expanding seniors’ civic participation and leveraging their skills.”

Gunpo Senior Club currently operates about 40 project teams and engages a total of 2,163 seniors in community activities: 1,300 in public-service roles, 489 in skill-utilization programs, 204 in community project teams, and 170 in employment-linkage programs.

The Senior Club plans to continue creating jobs and social-contribution opportunities that make use of seniors’ experience and skills, and it expects these efforts to grow.

Observers say Gunpo Senior Club’s award shows that senior employment programs can do more than provide financial support; they can also contribute to community safety and development.
