The newly opened Sogong Nuri Center is an administrative complex with three basement levels and 11 stories above ground (total floor area 6,484.06 m²). It was built as a donated facility tied to the Seosomun district’s 11th and 12th urban redevelopment projects.
By moving into the new building, the Sogong-dong Community Center has expanded its space and improved convenience for residents.
The first-floor lobby now houses self-service civil affairs kiosks. The second floor contains the civil affairs office and administrative space for the community center. The third floor is a community hall, part of the fourth floor is a staff lounge, and the fifth floor includes a multipurpose room and a rest area for workers. The 11th floor features an auditorium and a lounge with city views to support a range of resident activities and community engagement.
The building also incorporates several resident-focused amenities. The fourth floor includes a senior center; the seventh floor offers a shared-office–style community space; the eighth floor hosts a youth center; and the 10th floor houses the office of the cultural cooperation group for Jung-gu’s signature festival, “Jeongdong Night Walk.” The first floor and basement provide a total of 20 parking spaces.
In July, the sixth floor will open a screen-based park golf facility, and later this year the district plans to establish Jung-gu’s second archives room on the ninth floor. The district will officially mark the center’s opening with a ceremony on the 16th.
Sogong-dong sits next to Seoul City Hall and Gwanghwamun and forms a commercial and business corridor connecting Myeongdong, Euljiro and Seosomun. Although the area sees heavy demand for civil services, the previous facility, completed in 1971, had deteriorated, was cramped and lacked elevators, making access difficult. The move will allow the district to provide administrative services in a more comfortable environment.
The old building will be converted into dormitory-style housing for single-person young residents and Jung-gu employees. It will contain about 20 rooms and be offered at around 80% of market rent.
Kim Gil-seong, mayor of Jung-gu, said, “We will make the Sogong Nuri Center a local hub where residents, office workers and young people come together.”
