Iksan City in North Jeolla Province held an opening ceremony for its new city hall on March 13, marking a new chapter after 54 years.

The city staged the ceremony in the plaza of the new building. The previous city hall, built in 1970, was among the oldest in the country; residents had long raised concerns about safety and insufficient space.

Construction on the new facility began in 2021. Phase 1 was completed in 2024, and the city recently finished Phase 2 to finalize the new hall.

Beyond administrative offices, the new city hall significantly expands public amenities. The basement level (B1) includes a multipurpose hall, a small library, community club rooms and a public computer training center—creating a mixed-use space residents can access freely.

At the opening, officials screened a promotional video documenting the construction process and staged a commemorative performance with 16 citizen representatives. Singers Park Nam-jung and Bae Ah-hyun then performed, contributing to the celebratory atmosphere.

Mayor Jeong Heon-yul said the new city hall will boost civic pride and become a regional landmark. He added that the administration will listen to residents and pursue policies to advance local development.
