Jeong Myeong-geun, confirmed as the Democratic Party's candidate for mayor of Hwaseong, thanked party members and supporters and called for the formation of a unified "one team" to secure victory in the general election.

In a message issued immediately after his confirmation on the 12th, Jeong said, "I thank the 1.07 million citizens of Hwaseong Special City and my fellow party members for their support and encouragement." He added, "I also deeply thank the volunteers who stood with me during the primary."

He paid tribute to his primary rivals Kim Kyung-hee and Jin Seok-beom, saying, "I salute the two candidates for competing fairly and honorably," and stressed that they will join to form a Democratic Party one team and repay citizens by winning the general election.

Jeong pledged to carry forward and develop the policies and vision that emerged during the primary. Based on that agenda — realizing a basic-welfare society, building an AI-driven future city, establishing a 30-minute mobility era, providing life-course personalized care, creating an ecological and cultural city, and fostering a high-tech industrial hub — he said he will prepare Hwaseong's future.

He also said that, as a candidate able to implement the Lee Jae-myung administration's governing philosophy on the ground, he will move quickly on policies to stabilize livelihoods and strengthen the economy, and that he will run city government grounded in open communication with citizens and party members.

Citizens have noted that Jeong immediately put unity with his former rivals front and center after winning the primary. Analysts view this as a strategy to boost his competitiveness in the general election by consolidating party cohesion.

Meanwhile, Jeong is expected to flesh out the policies presented during the primary and begin a full-scale campaign focused on local issues.
