Hyundai and Kia announced on March 23 that they are launching a Car‑to‑Home service that lets drivers control home appliances remotely from the vehicle’s infotainment system.

Built in partnership with Samsung Electronics, the service links vehicles to Samsung’s SmartThings platform through connected‑car services. It enables real‑time management of compatible appliances—air conditioners, air purifiers, robot vacuums and more—directly from the car.

Owners using Hyundai’s BlueLink or Kia Connect can activate Car‑to‑Home by scanning the QR code shown in the SmartThings app on the vehicle’s infotainment display and linking their account on a smartphone.

Car‑to‑Home is designed to do more than provide simple remote control: it creates a seamless user experience that follows the driver from the moment they leave home, while they’re away, and after they return.

A key feature, Smart Routines, uses vehicle location data to automatically trigger preset modes—such as “away” or “return”—so the service operates more safely and conveniently.

For example, users can set appliances to shut off or start a robot vacuum when they leave, and have the air conditioner or air purifier turn on as they approach home to optimize or personalize the indoor environment.

The service will roll out via staged OTA (Over‑The‑Air) software updates to Hyundai and Kia models sold domestically that are equipped with the ccNC infotainment system.

Drivers can check eligible models on the vehicle software update website. Hyundai and Kia plan to expand the service to Genesis models equipped with the ccIC27 infotainment system.

With this smart‑home capability, Hyundai and Kia aim to move vehicles beyond transportation, turning them into a digital platform that links mobility and living spaces and accelerating new customer experiences under their software‑defined vehicle (SDV) strategy.

A Hyundai‑Kia spokesperson said Car‑to‑Home and Home‑to‑Car represent the first step in merging vehicles and homes into a single ecosystem. The companies plan to expand the car’s role as a smart‑home hub, connect more devices and continue introducing services that enrich customers’ lives.
