Second round opens for the Vehicle Carbon Neutral Points Program; additional participants to be selected

Gwacheon City said it will recruit additional participants for the Vehicle Carbon Neutral Points Program from the 7th through the 10th.
The program offers cash incentives tied to reduced driving mileage. It applies to owners of private, non-commercial passenger cars and vans registered in the city with up to 12 seats. Electric, hybrid and hydrogen vehicles are excluded.
The city plans to enroll 180 vehicles in total this year. After the first round registered 127 vehicles, the second round will accept 53 more on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested residents must apply through the Carbon Neutral Points website and submit supporting documents—such as photos of the vehicle dashboard and license plate—to finalize their participation.
Last year, 74 vehicles took part. The city distributed about 5.5 million KRW (approximately $4,125) in incentives, averaging about 74,000 KRW (approximately $55.50) per vehicle.
“This program lets residents benefit from a small change—driving less,” a city official said. “We expect strong participation because it helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions while cutting household transportation costs.”
Gwacheon’s additional recruitment gives residents an opportunity to protect the environment while gaining economic benefits, a step the city says will contribute to a more sustainable future.
