[Herald Economy reporter Lee Won-yul] U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran on April 4 (local time), saying, "You don't have much time," and adding, "They have 48 hours until the gates of hell open for them."

Trump posted on Truth Social: "Remember when I gave Iran ten days to accept our terms to end the war or to reopen the Strait of Hormuz?"

He appeared to be reiterating a deadline for an agreement with Iran — April 6, two days away.

He initially set that deadline for March 27, later threatened to bomb Iran's power plants, and then extended the window by ten days to April 6.

On March 30, Trump warned, "If we don't reach an agreement, we will blow up all their power plants, wells, Harg Island (possibly even all desalination facilities), and utterly raze them — ending our 'lovely stay' in Iran."

In his April 1 national address he said, "Over the next two to three weeks we will hit Iran extremely hard," and added, "We will send them back to the Stone Age."

Then on April 3 he posted on Truth Social: "Our great and powerful military hasn't even begun destroying what's left in Iran," identifying core infrastructure as targets. "Next comes bridges, then power plants."

He also urged that Iran's new leadership understands what must be done and that "it must happen quickly."

Analysts say his remarks both signal a possible escalation in attacks on Iran and ratchet up pressure on ongoing negotiations.
