Orion’s limited-edition snack, the Moist Yellow Cheese Chip, has turned into a hot commodity — selling out in places and driving resale prices up to ten times the original cost.
As of this afternoon (the 12th), sellers on various e-commerce platforms are listing a box of Moist Yellow Cheese Chips for 30,000–50,000 KRW (approximately $22.50–$37.50).
That’s more than 10 times the usual retail price (about 4,500 KRW, approximately $3.38). After news that the item would be discontinued spread, resellers tacked on premiums and prices climbed steadily.
Last month, Orion introduced the Moist Yellow Cheese Chip as a spring limited edition — a cheesy twist on its Moist Choco Chip.
Since the launch, shoppers have raved about its sweet-and-salty profile with a noticeable cheddar aroma, and word of mouth quickly boosted its popularity.
Orion told Yonhap News TV that the limited release sparked buzz on online communities and social media even before it hit shelves, and some stores ran out of stock — a sign of strong consumer demand.
The company added that it hasn’t decided whether to make the snack a permanent offering, and that it will review customer response and market conditions before making future plans.
