Jungbu University clinched the overall championship at a nationwide companion-animal competition.

Students from Jungbu University's Department of Animal Health and the Companion Animal Breeding major won the overall title at the country's first-ever dog fitness race, the 1st Korea Dog Fitness Club CANIX RACE, organized by the Korea Kennel Federation on May 9 at Yeoju's Companion Maru.

Led by Professor Jeong Woo-sung, Jungbu sent 12 teams — fewer than the roughly 40 teams other universities entered — but still finished near the top in most individual and team events, securing the overall victory.

In individual events, student Woo Hye-jin and her dog Bbosong won first place in the Beginner S division. In Beginner M, student Kim Da-ye and Hotteok claimed first; Jo In-seong and Lincoln placed fourth; and Do Eun-ji and Tidol finished fifth. In Beginner L, Moon Chan-woong and Ddakji took first, while Seo Da-yeon and Ddakji earned third place.

The teams also delivered strong performances.

In the Beginner team event, the duo of Seo Da-yeon and Jo In-seong, competing with Ddakji and Lincoln, finished first. The team of Kim Da-ye and Lee Cho-yeon, with Hotteok and Cook, placed third.

Observers noted that the students proved their skills by consistently ranking near the top despite the smaller team size.

Professor Jeong said, "I'm incredibly proud that the students' passion and hard work produced results beyond our expectations at this inaugural event. We'll continue to actively support students so they can fully showcase their practical skills in the field."

Meanwhile, Jungbu University's Department of Animal Health and the Companion Animal Breeding major emphasize hands-on training and a variety of student clubs to cultivate industry-ready professionals for the companion-animal sector.
