Kyungdong University's Department of Food Service Business took home the Best Educational Institution Award at the 2026 Seoul International Food & Tableware Expo, a three-day event held from the 8th to the 10th at the a&T Center in Yangjae-dong, Seoul.
Organized by the World Food Culture Research Institute, the expo brought together domestic and international food coordinators and tableware makers, highlighted trends in the food and dining industries, and hosted competitions, contests and exhibitions for food coordinators. In short, it showcased the full spectrum of food culture and the tableware business.
The event also featured a blind wine tasting, where participants assessed color, aroma and flavor and then answered questions identifying the wine's country and region of origin, grape variety, vintage, alcohol content and estimated retail price.
Department student Kim Young-seok scored the highest on that test, earning the gold medal in the sommelier category and drawing praise from organizers and judges.
\"I prepared using the wine knowledge I gained in class, and I'm thrilled with the result,\" Kim said, crediting the faculty for his win.
Professor Kim Min-hwan of Kyungdong University's Department of Food Service Business said he had long held quiet confidence in his students' commitment in class and training, and added that he was proud of the way they prepared diligently for the competition.
