SPOTV News confirmed on March 26 that Shin recently lost her great-aunt and is grieving. The day before, she posted a black image to her social media with the message, "I love you. Rest in peace," offering a final farewell.
On March 17, Shin traveled to Changwon to visit her critically ill great-aunt and shared the emotional visit with fans.
She wrote, "My great-aunt's condition deteriorated rapidly a few months ago, and she had to be moved to another hospital. The weakened aunt lay there in a way I had never seen before. I felt so sorry and worried that I just cried," a post that moved many readers.
Shin also expressed regret for not visiting more often, citing distance and a busy schedule, but she thanked her aunt for holding on and pleaded for her recovery, writing, "Aunt, thank you for hanging on."
Despite those hopes, news of the death prompted an outpouring of condolences online, with fans sending messages praying for the deceased and offering comfort to Shin.
