(The CEN News / Reporter Yang Hyung-ju) The National Asia Culture Center is temporarily opening Haneulmadang, a lush urban green space in the heart of the city, for the Children’s Day long weekend.

The center says Haneulmadang will be open from May 1 through May 5, giving families a relaxed spot to unwind and enjoy some outdoor time together.

Haneulmadang spans roughly 4,587.6 m² (about 49,400 sq ft) of natural lawn and walking paths and offers panoramic views of downtown Gwangju. The center notes that this open garden has become a favorite with younger crowds—a casual venue for cultural events and a place to make everyday memories.

During the temporary opening, visitors and tourists can relax on the lawn, stroll the paths, snap photos, and otherwise enjoy the outdoors. Officials expect the space to offer a comfortable, safe urban outing—especially for families with young children.

Kim Sang-wook, director of the National Asia Culture Center, said, "We hope many citizens and visitors will spend meaningful time at Haneulmadang during the Children's Day holiday. We will continue working to offer diverse programs and conveniences so this cultural space remains closely connected to the public."

After the temporary opening ends, the lawn will get a short recovery period to protect the grass, and Haneulmadang will fully reopen on May 20.
