[The Public — Eun-hye Ahn] The Shinhan Financial Hope Foundation said on March 25 that it held a donation ceremony for the “Just Give” program on March 24 at the Community Chest building in Jung-gu, Seoul, together with the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Community Chest of Korea, and the Korea Council on Social Welfare.
“Just Give” is a Ministry of Health and Welfare program that provides food and essential daily items unconditionally to people who are struggling to afford a meal.
In February, Shinhan Financial pledged to increase its support for “Just Give” to KRW 10 billion (approximately $7.5 million) over three years. The company framed the commitment as a way to repay public support and fulfill its corporate social responsibility; the donation ceremony announced that commitment.
Under the agreement, the Shinhan Financial Hope Foundation will link the “Just Give” program with its crisis-support initiative, “In Moments of Crisis, With Shinhan,” to assist roughly 1,000 vulnerable households, reduce welfare blind spots, and help stabilize recipients’ daily lives.
“In Moments of Crisis, With Shinhan” identifies at-risk families based on referrals from social workers and police officers and provides up to KRW 3 million (roughly $2,250) per household for living, medical, education, and housing expenses.
A foundation official said, “Through cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Welfare, we aim to strengthen basic food security for citizens and proactively identify and support neighbors who fall into welfare blind spots. Shinhan Financial will continue to deepen public–private cooperation and sustain a range of social contribution activities to carefully support those in need.”
To date, the foundation said, the “In Moments of Crisis, With Shinhan” program has assisted about 13,073 households with roughly KRW 20 billion (about $15 million). The foundation plans to run the program across nine rounds this year.
