On March 30, the university announced a special hiring initiative to appoint eminent faculty who will help train experts in areas tied to national challenges and strategic technologies.
Earlier, the government identified 12 national strategic technology sectors — including AI, semiconductors and advanced biomedicine — and launched the K-Moonshot Project, a mission-driven R&D program to tackle major national problems.
The newly hired scholars are expected not only to pursue core AI research but also to lead AI transformation (AX) efforts, applying AI across other academic disciplines.
SNU aims to recruit five distinguished scholars with an annual salary of 300,000,000 KRW (about $225,000), roughly 2.5 times the university’s 2021 average full professor salary of 121,730,000 KRW (about $91,298). The university said the final hiring scale could change depending on the budget it actually receives from the government and the outcome of salary negotiations.
An SNU official said the scholars are expected to be appointed in September after completing remaining procedures, including college-level candidate recommendations and review by the Special Faculty Hiring Committee.
