[iNews24 reporter Ahn Young-rok] Cheongju City in North Chungcheong Province will provide up to 100,000 KRW (approximately $75) toward the purchase of protective gear, such as helmets, to improve delivery workers' safety.
The program covers 80 delivery workers who completed both a free two-wheeled vehicle (motorcycle/scooter) safety inspection on the 3rd and industrial safety and health training on the 24th.
The initiative stems from an agreement Cheongju City signed with Coupang Eats Service last year to enhance the safety of mobile workers and to reduce noise from two-wheeled vehicles.
Cheongju City is strengthening safety management for mobile workers through a tailored package that links free inspections, safety training, and equipment support.
Eligible delivery workers should bring receipts for protective gear purchased this year, an ID, and a copy of their bankbook (bank passbook) and apply for the subsidy at Cheongju City's Corporate Support Division by May 15.
An Bang-rim, head of Cheongju City's Labor Policy Team, said the equipment subsidy should help create safer working conditions for delivery workers. He added that the city will continue to advance policies to safeguard mobile workers' safety and rights.
