[Anchor] The Korea Sports Association has opened disciplinary proceedings against Secretary-General Kim Nami over her offensive remarks and initiated the process even during the holiday to contain the fallout. The association says it will reach a conclusion quickly, and a severe penalty appears likely. I'm Jang Yoon-hee. [Reporter] Secretary-General Kim Nami drew criticism for making inappropriate comments to the family of a middle-school boxer identified as A, who has been unconscious for 8 months. Kim initially told the family she would take "100% responsibility," but she later reversed that position and is reported to have said the boy was already brain-dead and asked, "Are you trying to cash in?" As the backlash grew, Yoo Seung-min, president of the Korea Sports Association, cut short a business trip to China and returned late on the holiday of the 1st, immediately suspending Kim from her duties. The association said it had urgently suspended Kim's duties and authority given the urgency and seriousness of the matter, and that it will move quickly with the strongest measures available ahead of formal disciplinary proceedings. The Sports Fairness Committee, to be convened soon, will vote on the appropriate level of discipline. Under association rules, disciplinary options include reprimand, pay reduction, demotion, suspension of qualifications, dismissal, and expulsion. Officials say they are also considering convening the board if the decision calls for dismissal or a harsher penalty. President Yoo said statements that disregard athletes' lives and safety cannot be tolerated for any reason and vowed to handle the matter firmly. A former alpine ski racer, Kim was appointed secretary-general in March last year. She attracted attention as the association's first female secretary-general in its 105-year history but now faces disciplinary action over the controversy. This is Jang Yoon-hee of Yonhap News TV.
